Quiet Luxury and Timeless Design

In the heart of Copenhagen’s historic Christianshavn district, architect and designer David Thulstrup has meticulously transformed a 218-year-old warehouse into four elegant apartments. Defined by a philosophy of "quiet luxury," the project respects the building’s heritage while introducing a refined material palette that enhances its timeless character.

A key element in this transformation is NABLA in the color Daylight, a Made by Hand rug designed by David Thulstrup, which seamlessly integrates into the space, complementing the warm and earthy tones found throughout the interiors.

Honoring History Through Design

Originally built for drying animal hides, the warehouse retains its raw authenticity with carefully restored pine beams, exposed brick walls, and natural clay render, all thoughtfully preserved under Denmark’s strict heritage regulations. Thulstrup’s approach was one of minimal intervention - removing layers of paint and additions to reveal the building’s true essence.

A Palette of Natural Materials

Throughout the apartments, a soft, organic material palette reinforces the connection to nature. Wide Dinesen Douglas pine planks, Baltic brown granite, and custom aluminum lighting create a harmonious balance between past and present. The subtle hues of ochre, orange, and light grey mirror the shifting colors of the Christianshavn canal, reinforcing a sense of place.

NABLA as a Signature Element

In this delicate interplay of textures and tones, NABLA in Daylight plays an integral role. The rug adds warmth and tactility to the space, enhancing the understated elegance that defines the project. Its geometric structure and soft wool fibers align perfectly with Thulstrup’s vision of quiet, luxurious living.

A Space for Community

Beyond the private residences, the ground floor offers communal spaces including a sauna, wine room, and an outdoor shower, designed for residents to embrace the waterfront lifestyle. The blend of indoor and outdoor elements ensures that the building remains a dynamic, living entity within its historic setting.

With Strandgade, architect and designer David Thulstrup has crafted an environment where history and modernity exist in perfect balance, and where NABLA finds its natural place in a home that tells a story of design, restraint, and quiet luxury.
